Transferring Your Data to your iPhone or iPod touch
- Locate your MacGourmet3Database file. It’s usually in the Documents folder on your Mac, but you can also find it by choosing Help > “Where Is My Database” in MacGourmet.
- Quit MacGourmet touch, using the task manager. It’s not enough to close the app, you need to open the iOS task manager by double-tapping the home button, press the MacGourmet touch icon in the task tray until it starts to “jiggle” and then tap the close icon to quit it.

NOTE: Make sure that you quit MacGourmet before transferring your data. Unless you do this, you will see the previously loaded data and not your new data.
- Next you want to tether your iPhone or iPod to iTunes on your Mac with your USB cable. Let iTunes finish syncing, then select your device in the Devices list, and next go to the Apps tab. Scroll down until you see the Apps list under “File Sharing”. Select MacGourmet, and then just drag and drop your MacGourmet3Database file from the folder on your Mac to the “MacGourmet Documents” list. iTunes will sync your database file, and when it’s done, that’s it! Your MacGourmet data will have been transferred to your mobile device. Note that once you know the location of your database file you can also press the “Add…” button and navigate to that location and chose your database file, adding it to the Documents folder that way, as well.

Transferring One or More Shopping Lists (iPhone/iPod only)
- To transfer shopping lists to your mobile device, select one or more lists in MacGourmet on your Mac.
- Choose File > Export, choose the MacGourmet iPhone export format and save the file with using the name “Shopping”.
- Following the instructions above for copying your database to your mobile device, connect it to iTunes and copy the Shopping.zip file to your “MacGourmet Documents” list.
- Start up MacGourmet touch, tap on the Shopping Lists list on the main view, and then choose Import when prompted to import your data.

Transferring Data from MacGourmet 2/MacGourmet Deluxe 1
While MacGourmet touch 2 requires MacGourmet 3, an exporter for previous versions of MacGourmet has also been made available. (Please note: if using MacGourmet 3, there is no reason to do this)
- Download the file: MacGourmet3Database Export Plug-in
- Install it into your copy of MacGourmet by double-clicking on the package file downloaded.
- After you’ve restarted the app, select your My Recipes list, and choose File > Export…
- Ignore the file name and save location (they won’t matter) and chose “MacGourmet3Database” from the export format list at the bottom of the dialog window.
- Press the Export button to create your file.
- You will get get asked about creating or not creating steps. Your choice will depend on whether or not you want your directions divided into more than one step for you. Your results will vary depending on how you have your directions entered, but you can always just export your data again if not happy with the results.
- After the database file is created, a Finder window should open with your exported MacGourmet3Database file selected. This is the file that you want to copy to Documents in iTunes, following the instructions above.
Transferring Data from MacGourmet to MacGourmet touch Wirelessly
You can use your Wifi connection to transfer your data from your Mac to your iPhone/iPod. This should work for both MacGourmet 2 and MacGourmet 3.
